New Fiber Center

New Fiber Center aims to speed up Suominen’s fiber developing activities.

Suominen’s New Fiber Center aims for onboarding of novel sustainable fibers in close cooperation with partners, such as raw material providers and consumer goods companies. The New Fiber Center way of working combines Suominen’s versatile, highly experienced R&D team and unique technological capabilities. The pilot lines at our Nakkila and Windsor Locks sites support the innovation work by, for example, enabling the testing of prototypes.

Together with partners, Suominen investigate and run trials with fibers that typically have not been used in the nonwovens industry. We currently have several interesting fibers in our pipeline, such as recycled content, natural, and 100% cellulosic.

Suominen and Infinited Fiber Company develop nonwoven sheet made from 100% textile waste

The sheet was made with Infinited Fiber Company’s regenerated fiber Infinna™, which is biodegradable, plastic-free fiber and made from discarded cotton-rich textiles, making it a resource-efficient alternative to the conventional materials used in single-use nonwovens, such as polyester and viscose.
